Did you know that taking folic acid before getting pregnant can help reduce the risk of birth defects in your baby? Folic acid is a B vitamin that's essential for the development of the neural tube, which becomes the baby's brain and spinal cord. That's why it's recommended that women who are planning to get pregnant start taking folic acid supplements at least one month before conception. The recommended dose is 400 micrograms (mcg) per day, but your doctor may recommend a higher dose if you have a higher risk of having a baby with a neural tube defect. You can get folic acid from foods like leafy greens, citrus fruits, and fortified cereals, but it can be difficult to get enough from diet alone. That's why supplements are often recommended. So if you're planning to have a baby, make sure you're taking folic acid! It's a simple step that can help give your baby the best start in life. #folicacid #pregnancy #birthdefects #neuraltube

Today, I want to bring your attention to a lesser-known medical condition called Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS). APS is an autoimmune disorder where the body mistakenly attacks certain proteins in the blood, leading to an increased risk of blood clots. APS can affect anyone, regardless of age or gender, and can lead to serious health complications such as deep vein thrombosis, stroke, and heart attack. It can also lead to pregnancy complications such as miscarriage and pre-eclampsia. It is essential to raise awareness about APS so that people can recognize the symptoms and seek timely medical attention. Symptoms may include recurrent blood clots, unexplained miscarriages, and neurological symptoms such as headaches and seizures. If you or someone you know is experiencing any of these symptoms, please speak to your healthcare provider immediately. Early diagnosis and treatment can significantly improve outcomes and quality of life for those living with APS. Let's spread awareness about APS and help make a difference in the lives of those affected by this condition. #APSawareness #antiphospholipidsyndrome #autoimmunedisease #health #awareness

WHAT IS A MIGRAINE HEADACHE Migraine is a common neurological disorder characterized by recurrent moderate to severe headaches. The headaches are recurrent and throbbing in nature that typically affects one side of the head often accompanied by other symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound. The condition affects many people and can have a significant impact on an individual's quality of life. Effective management of migraine requires an all-round approach that includes both preventive and abortive strategies. Preventive measures for migraine are aimed at reducing the frequency, severity, and duration of migraines, and can include lifestyle changes, medication, and complementary therapies. Lifestyle changes such as regular exercise, stress management techniques, and maintaining a regular sleep schedule can be effective in reducing the frequency of migraines. Adopting a healthy diet and avoiding triggers such as certain foods, alcohol, and caffeine can also help to prevent migraines. Medications used for preventive management of migraines include beta-blockers, anticonvulsants, and antidepressants. These medications can help to reduce the frequency and severity of migraines, but they are typically prescribed by a healthcare professional, and it is important to follow instructions and guidelines. In addition to preventive measures, abortive therapy can be used to stop a migraine once it has started. The most commonly used abortive medications for migraines are triptans, (NSAIDs) and anti-nausea drugs can also be used to relieve the symptoms of a migraine.
